The Wave Group Takes Charge for Improved Sanitation in Rural India

Statistics dated February 2011, reveal only 31% of Indian rural households to have access to toilets. Also, studies conducted by the Water and Sanitation Program of the World Bank shows insufficient sanitation costs the equivalent of 6.4% of India’s GDP. The records are shocking when compared to the rural population of India that ranges to about 69% of the total population. Keeping in mind the present scenario, improved sanitation in rural India happens to be the need of the hour.

Wave Group’s Initiative in Building A Hygienic Rural India

Wave Group through its philanthropic wing, The Ponty Chadha Foundation is a part of endless campaigns promoting awareness among people about the requirement of Improved Sanitation in Rural India. With the objective to grow cognizance among the general masses, The Foundation is out on the roads with slogans, posters, banners, wall writings, hoardings, pamphlets and so on. Moreover, children with ‘special needs’ from Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan voluntarily participated in the campaign with the message “If we can, why not you?” to further fortify the appeal for cleanliness.

 Need For Sanitation

The Ponty Chadha Foundation focuses on working closely with Indo-German Hospital, the government, the local NGOs and several CSR organizations to elevate the sanitation standards. According to a doctor of the Indo-German Hospital, “Better sanitation helps to break the cycles of diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, malaria etc. Most of these diseases are transmitted through faecal-oral route and hence, there’s an utmost need for toilets and proper sewage disposal.” The Foundation is strongly endeavoring to make the masses aware that:

  • Poor sanitation often causes malnutrition, congenital anomalies and productivity losses.
  • Dearth of adequate sanitation slows down the progress of the area.
  • Contamination of drinking water and soil due to lack of sewage treatment further increases the burden of pollution and health related issues.
  • An unhygienic environment may lead to an overall unhealthy life that in long run hampers the economic status of the family and the country on broader scale.

The Wave Group is making every possible effort to contribute in the ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission for aggrandizing public welfare and healthy living and to build up a hygienic rural India.
