Yoga Day’16 Celebration at WAVE: Yoga for fitness – fitness for better living

International Yoga DayYoga, is the journey of the self, to the self, through the self. – The Bhagavad

Gita How did the concept of ‘Yoga Day’ come into being? Have you ever given it a thought? The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga to extend one common platform of uniting people of all age groups, religions, nationalities and social backgrounds. The larger aim was to make them experience meditativeness, exercises. On the other hand, the aim was to expand their perception of life from individuality to universality.

The day is celebrated worldwide, typically by practicing Yoga asanas and different meditation therapies. In doing so, it is said that all the elements – earth, fire, air, water and ether (sky) unite leading to our inner awakening. The essence of practicing Yoga, thus, lies in bringing peace and harmony to the humanity. We, however, aimed to strike this harmony in a slightly different way. The Ponty Chadha Foundation (PCF) commemorated the Yoga Day this year in a special way. We call it the ‘Yofie’ way! Not only at PCF, the real estate arm of the parent group (Wave Group) organized an hour-long Yoga session for more than 75 employees of Wave Infratech at Wave City, which is 4500 acres Hi-Tech city situated on NH 24 near Sardar Kulwant Singh Chadha Skills Academy in Ghaziabad. All theparticipants attended the session with enthusiasm and in The Yofie Way!

‘Yofie’: What’s that? In the world governed by endless selfie craze, what better way is there to celebrate Yoga than YOFIE!

Yes, you got us right. ‘Yofie’ simply stands for ‘Selfie’ on the International Day of Yoga. We know it’s practically not possible to click selfies while you perform yoga with complete concentration. So we relaxed the usual ‘selfie’ concept a little to invite special photographs celebrating the spirit of Yoga. People were asked to share their selfie in yoga poses and stamp their commitment to Yoga.

The response was overwhelming as people shared their Yoga selfies in different poses of Halasana, Shirshasana, Gomukhasana and the signature ‘inverted plank’ position. They kept clicking and posting their Yofies while they practiced Yoga indoors or outdoors. The participants shared their snaps in different Yoga poses to show us their enthusiasm for the contest. It was indeed thrilling to see people so excited and united at the same time by the power of Yoga. We had no idea that Yoga could be so much fun! From kids to families, everyone jubilantly tweeted on the day.

The two-day campaign turned to be really astounding. PCF extends a heart vote of thanks to all of you for making this campaign a success with your delightful tweets. International Day of Yoga couldn’t have been enjoyed in a better way.

At Wave City, the day kicked off with a massive yoga demonstration at the celebration ground. All the participants ushered with some deep breathing and coordinated movements. In the morning by 8 O’ clock participants began lining up around the spruced up complex. This hour-long session ended with meditation.

As you finish reading this, do remember to practice Yoga for a better living.
