A girl child is discriminated right from the beginning when she is inside the womb of her mother. This is an extremely familiar case in India. Female foeticide, female infanticide is rampant and is sucking the vitals of our society. There are several issues that need attention when it comes to emancipation of woman and girl child. Ponty Chadha Foundation, under the flagship of the Wave Group, has set up various targets to achieve a better living for women in India.

According to census 2001, the child sex ratio is a paltry 927, a drop from 945 in census 1991. A paper of the United Nations Cyberschoolbus states that out of total 130million children who are school-dropouts, 60% of the students are girls. As per Human Resource Development Ministry report, the average enrolment rate for age group 14-18 is meagre 36.77% for girls in India. When it comes to labour and girl child, their work becomes invisible as compared to boys. Hence, correct statistical data cannot be given but a report of International Labour organization says that between 5-17 years of age above 100million girls are involved in child-labour.

Sexual abuse is something that needs no detailing when it comes to issues related with women. An NGO based in Delhi after conducting an assessment of 357 school-going girls found that 63% of the children have experienced serious rape, followed by other forms of sexual assaults.

Campaigns are taking place worldwide in order to stop these abuses and work towards the betterment of their position. It is extremely crucial to provide a girl child the scope to educate and develop herself in a healthy and safe environment then only can a nation become free in a true sense. Indian government has taken several steps in order to promote the girl child. Balika Samriddhi Yojana, Kishori Shakti Yojana are some shames benefitting a girl-child. The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Juvenile Justice Act, The National Policy for Children, The Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act etc. are some positive steps by the Indian legislature towards building a gender neutral India.

The Ponty Chadha Foundation is endeavouring to generate livelihood for women through SHG (Self Help Group) project. The Foundation also aims to ensure proper sanitation for rural women. To spread the awareness, the Trust has plans to use different channels such as hoardings, banners, pamphlets, etc. and to shake hands with government and different NGOs and other organizations for the same.
