Why Pakistan should win a cricket match? Mrs. Manju knows it all!

Mrs Manju Chamoli with Special ChildTeaching at Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan (MBCN), the special school for autism in Delhi/NCR has been a life-altering experience for Mrs. Manju Chamoli. Currently serving as the H.O.D for the Autistic and Activity Wing at MBCN, she is helping these students gain a new direction in life through an inclusive classroom setting. Usually, children with autism spectrum disorders face challenges in social interactions and exhibit delays in cognitive skills. As the in-charge of autistic wing, Mrs. Manju works on the overall development of autism suffering children through an inclusive model based on education and rehabilitation.

The journey at MBCN has not just enriched her professionally, but personally as well. She now loves spending time with special children. On the personal side, she feels that her negativity has completely vanished and her outlook towards life has become positive on the whole. And why wouldn’t it?When these children shower unconditional love on you, the experience is just amazing.

Recalling an incident, she said, “While teaching in a class, I asked a child that who will win the cricket match between Pakistan and England. The child replied, ‘Pakistan’. I wondered what made him say this answer and asked him, ‘Why Pakistan, why not England?’ He simply replied, ‘Because Pakistan is our neighbour and we must love our neighbours.’ Though this reply was simple, but the thought behind this genuine response did make me feel that special kids are specially bestowed with a sense that we all must acknowledge. You tend to realize that these are the wonderful souls created by the god and it is your duty to bring a meaningful change in their life.”

As per her, MBCN, the school for special children is bringing a lot of awareness about special children and helping them in a unique way. One thing that differentiates Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan from other schools is the active parent participation. It is one-of-a-kind organization that supports the parents of the special children by appointing them in the school itself. The institution also extends great hands-on experience to the teachers every day. While teaching the students with various disabilities, the teachers develop an understanding and adapt their techniques for their overall growth.

Mrs. Manju fully understands that the growth in autistic child can be a challenge, but she manages the classroom decorum through behavior modification programs and rewards. Additionally, she even motivates the parents of these children so that they can overcome a child’s behavioural issues. She believes that along with the children, parents must also be given proper counseling to prepare and deal with the kids in a  better way. This is the main reason why MBCN gives greater  emphasis on special workshops and orientation programs for parents. This helps them understand their child’s needs and respond to it in a better way.

At this special school for deaf children, the teachers use the sign language for deaf children. The classes are divided as per the age and conducted by showing videos on the projector to the students.

Taking all such consistent efforts in her stride, Mrs. Manju is clearly our #Waverider who is committed to bring a #WaveOfChange by dedicating her life for autistic children. At MBCN, we feel honoured to give a platform to such amazing teaching talent. What do you think? Do you have any insights after reading this blog?
