Empowering Young India on National Youth Day

Z Close out Function - Fall in for ParadeDid you know? By 2020, India is set to become the world’s youngest country with 64 per cent of its population falling in the working age group. If we refer to the current statistics, every third person in an Indian city today is a youth. This means, India as a country has ‘Young Power’ in its hands that can write a new chapter in the history of the modern world. Their zeal, courage and dynamic nature can turn situations in their favor and help them make it big in the world. What youngsters need is guidance to harness their potential and transform their destiny, much like our role model, Swami Vivekananda.

The great thinker always believed in the philosophy of ‘youth is the future.’ If we dig deeper into his thoughts, we may find that a person’s youth is the best phase of life that helps him reach his maximum potential. Inspired by his dynamic vision, India today is celebrating ‘National Youth Day’ on his birthday, i.e. January 12.

Presently, India is on the harbinger of change and all the country needs is a guiding light to inspire its youth. Celebrating his birthday as the ‘National Youth Day’ reminds us of a great task that is present ahead of us – to change the destiny of our youth.

A Closer Look at Condition of Youth

Vivekananda had placed his faith in the younger generation and our effort would be to not let it falter. But our views may differ looking at the present scenario in which economic fluctuations, seasonal nature of works and extensive use of information technology have affected the rate of employment. IT has in fact, replaced the unskilled manpower, thus, arising the need for a skilled workforce. The total number of unemployed persons in India is estimated to be around 44.79 million, according to a 2012 survey report. With our nation set to become the youngest in the world, we face an uphill task to provide jobs to each and all.

PCF for Skill Development

In tune with our country’s ambitious ‘Skill India’ campaign, The Ponty Chadha Foundation has brought a wave of change with Sardar Kulwant Singh Chadha Skills Academy. Based on the vision of ‘Skill, Scale and Speed’, the academy renders training to the rural youth and even helps them get placements. This solution helps us curb the rising gap of unemployment. With a humble beginning, the Skills Academy is providing training to the youth on facility management, computer literacy, security services, firefighting and soft skills. The youth enrolled in this academy learn skill building through lectures, group work, peer education, audio-visual aids, practical sessions and on-the-job experiences.

Skilled MBCN

Our school for differently-abled, Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan (MBCN) also echoes the same vision of ‘Skill India’ campaign. At this charitable institution, we have vocational training workshops for the students with special needs. The students, based on their strengths, create hand-made paper stationery, gifting boxes, branded carry bags, card-board lunch boxes and many more items. By participating in this initiative, the students earn their monthly stipend and realise their dream of being financially self-reliant. Today, we have about 160 children working in two shifts and earning at our sheltered workshop, Swayam selling eco-friendly products. Have a look at their skilled creations over the school’s e-commerce website.
